Harking back to my earliest attempts to pair medium format camera controls with Polaroid’s classic 600 series instant film (seen here), I continued in this effort in 2016, equipping the same medium format camera with Fujifilm’s popular Instax Mini film. The camera used to create these images is far from fully manual yet it offers greater control over the shutter than possible with the majority of cameras designed for use with integral film types. Drawn to the accessibility of a print generated instantly, I began “hacking” integral film types which I saw as having greater potential than their intended cameras allowed for, having rigid models for light capture. The results are truly unique photographic prints in which light has been allowed to do the majority of the work, created entirely in camera.
